The NBA is seeing a lot of incredible scoring performances lately. On March 10th, Bam Adebayo broke Kobe Bryant’s record, scoring 83 points – the second-highest single-game total in NBA history.
A long-held record has just been broken, and the league’s most valuable player showed everyone exactly why they think so highly of him.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander breaks Wilt Chamberlain’s record
I was so hyped to see OKC pull off a 104-102 win against the Celtics on March 12th – Boston was playing really well lately! This win keeps Oklahoma City at the top of the Western Conference standings, and it’s their seventh straight victory, which is amazing!
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again stole the show, scoring 35 points and making history in the game. A jump shot from 20 feet out with seven minutes left proved to be the key moment, allowing him to reach a significant milestone.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has now scored at least 20 points in an incredible 127 consecutive games, breaking a record previously held by Wilt Chamberlain for 61 years.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander started his impressive streak on November 1st, 2024, and he’s showing no signs of letting up anytime soon.
What Gilgeous-Alexander said about his achievement
After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander said his main focus was securing the win for his team, though he acknowledged the personal record was a welcome addition.
He admitted that while achievements are nice, ultimately, winning is all that truly mattered to him.
Honestly, I was totally willing to sacrifice my personal record for the team to win. So, I’m thrilled we pulled it off, and even better, I still managed to get the record too! It’s a perfect outcome.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shared the key to his consistent performance: ‘I give 100% effort in every game.’
In basketball and in life, a lot of things are out of your hands. I’ve learned to succeed by concentrating on what I can control and always giving it my all. I focus on working hard, and when I look up, I’ve actually achieved quite a bit.
