The last trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie revealed who the main villain will be. Many fans have been hoping to see Wario, Mario’s greedy and powerful rival, appear in a Super Mario movie, and some thought he might show up in a sequel. Earlier trailers hinted that Wario and Waluigi could be the villains, but the newest footage proves that’s not the case, based on a confirmed detail about where the movie takes place.
The latest trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie revealed that Wart will be the owner of the casino, taking the place of Wario as the main villain. Wart is a notable choice because he’s a classic enemy from the Super Mario games and even made a brief appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

Most fans thought Wario and Waluigi would be running the casino in the movie, since they’ve been connected to casinos in past Mario games. However, it turned out that Wart, the main villain from the original Super Mario Bros. 2, was actually the one in charge.

This discovery connects back to Wart’s past as the owner of Casino USA in the 1993 Super Mario Kodansha manga. In that story, he used the casino to try and capture Princess Peach. The new trailer suggests the sequel will revisit this plot point, as Wart again seems to be after Princess Peach.

Will Wario Ever Appear In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie promises a lot of villains, featuring characters like Wart, Bowser Jr., and Bowser, among others.
Wart is currently filling the role of the villain previously held by Wario, especially given his connection to the casino setting. Some fans speculate Wario could still appear as a hidden antagonist, but others believe that would be excessive considering how many villains are already in the game. Wario is a strong character who deserves to be a central, compelling villain, rather than just a minor obstacle for Mario.
Okay, so the credits rolled, but honestly, I’m already thinking about what comes next. That little post-credits tease? It strongly hints that Wario might be joining the adventure in a potential third Super Mario Galaxy Movie. And if that happens, it sounds like things are about to get a whole lot bigger and more challenging for Mario and friends.
Wart is likely to lose to Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach in the next game, which could allow Wario and Waluigi to seize control of his casino. This could then lead to a final battle between the heroes and villains in a future game.
