‘Spider-Noir’ Showrunner Says Series Will Not Be in ‘Spider-Verse’ Continuity

A Standalone Story

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, known for their work on Spider-Verse, are also producing Spider-Noir. Their new animated series, which is the first Spider-Man show rated TV-14, is expected to be a bit darker and more mature in tone.

Prime Video announced that Spider-Noir follows Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a world-weary private detective in 1930s New York. After a devastating personal loss, he’s compelled to confront his history as the city’s sole superhero.

Uziel explained that while the new film features the same voice actor as the Spider-Verse movies, it offers a unique take on the character. He clarified that it isn’t a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, and that the introduction of the multiverse by Phil Lord and Chris Miller gives creators the freedom to develop their own versions of the story.

This method uses the concept of the Spider-Verse multiverse, letting different versions of Spider-Man exist without interfering with each other’s stories.

A Darker Universe

The new Spider-Noir series takes place in its own separate world, meaning you don’t need to have watched the Spider-Verse movies to understand it. What happens in the series won’t affect the upcoming third Spider-Verse film, letting it tell a complete story on its own. Though Nicolas Cage returns as Spider-Noir, this version is different, with a unique backstory, style, and set of problems.

The show’s slogan, “With no power comes no responsibility,” flips the famous Spider-Man idea on its head, suggesting this version of Spider-Man might not follow Peter Parker’s strong sense of right and wrong.
