Popular YouTuber MoistCr1tikal recently appeared in a cameo role in the latest season of the anime series Baki, but he’s expressed dissatisfaction with how it turned out.
Okay, so Charlie, or ‘MoistCr1tikal’ as most of us know him, isn’t just a hilarious YouTuber. He’s actually been getting into voice acting, which is pretty cool! I was surprised to find out he voiced Sonar in this new superhero game called Dispatch, made by AdHoc Studio. It’s a neat little detail that shows how far his online success has taken him.
Everyone immediately recognized his signature, emotionless voice as belonging to the popular mutant bat character. It didn’t take long for fans to realize he also provided the voice for another character in the English dub of BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai.
The latest season of Baki premiered on Netflix in February 2026. Moist kept his appearance in the anime a secret until March 10th, when he announced his role in a YouTube video.
MoistCr1tikal says he “blew it” in surprise Baki cameo
Okay, so I’m a huge fan of Baki – like, seriously obsessed. You’ve probably seen me rant about how awesome and over-the-top the fights are in my videos. So when I got the chance to voice a random police officer in the newest season, I immediately said yes! It was a fun cameo, but honestly? Looking back at my performance in the recording booth, I’m a little… conflicted about how it turned out.
He explained that he finally had the chance to pursue something he’d been wanting to do, and it involved a topic he was passionate about. However, he felt he didn’t perform well. ‘I really messed it up,’ he admitted. ‘I don’t think I did a very good job, honestly.’
The actor playing Moist, a police officer who delivers the surprising news that the legendary samurai Musashi Miyamoto has come back to life, only has a small role with around twenty lines. The actor originally planned to deliver his lines with a lot of exaggerated performance, similar to professional wrestling.
He explained that he hadn’t understood how important it was to perfectly sync the dubbed audio with the characters’ lip movements and to replicate the original voice actor’s tone.
Interestingly, Moist originally tried out for the part of Golem, but he ended up playing Sonar instead. Because Sonar was still being developed, Moist was able to contribute to the character’s personality and create the tech-savvy bat fans enjoy – quite a change from his brief appearance in Baki.
Even though he was worried about how he did, fans are showing their support. Moist also emphasized how thankful he was to be part of a show he really loves, no matter what.
Moist isn’t the first content creator to voice an anime character. Back in 2021, Valkyrae, Corpse Husband, Sykkuno, and DisguisedToast all voiced characters in the Crunchyroll series, Tribe Nine.
