The Pokémon Company is looking for ecologists with doctoral degrees to help make the Pokémon world feel more believable and true to life.
A popular gaming company is looking for PhD graduates to fill currently open positions, as advertised on the Japanese job site HRMOS.
The job posting states that applicants may be considered for positions across all of The Pokémon Company’s different areas, meaning their skills could be valuable in a variety of roles.
They are particularly interested in candidates with PhDs in science, engineering, or agriculture, and who have research experience in plant and animal ecology.

These full-time positions offer a salary between 6 and 10 million yen per year (about $37,800 to $63,000 USD), with a yearly raise in March. To apply, you’ll need to be fluent in both English and Japanese and submit a PDF detailing your research.
Pokemon Company wants scientists who study plants & animals
It makes sense that The Pokémon Company is looking for ecologists. The games are famous for realistically mimicking the natural world, including things like how Pokémon behave, day and night changes, and variations between Pokémon in different areas.
It’s not yet known what the Pokémon Company is looking for from these applicants, but with Pokémon games becoming increasingly complex, many fans speculate this could mean a future game will feature a remarkably detailed and immersive world.

Recently, fans have had even more ways to experience the world of Pokémon. In Tokyo, Pokepark Kanto opened, offering guests a Pokémon-themed park with areas to explore and battle. Also new is Pokopia, a life simulation game where players can shape the environment – even turning deserts into forests – through gameplay.
It’s still a mystery what The Pokémon Company is planning… but if you have the right skills and qualifications, you could be part of the team and find out firsthand by applying.
