Electronic Arts (EA) reduced staff at its Battlefield studios on March 9th. This happened several months after Battlefield 6 became the top-selling game in the United States in 2025.
EA had a very successful game launch. It sold 7 million copies within its first three days and boosted the company’s overall bookings by 38% in the third quarter of 2026, reaching $3.046 billion. Sales in the US were the highest for a full game in three years. This launch was the biggest in the game series’ history, clearly showing it was back on track after the difficulties with Battlefield 2042. Despite this success, the company still made cuts.
EA lays off Battlefield 6 studio staff in “realignment”
Employees at Criterion, Dice, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios were impacted by recent changes, according to IGN. However, all four studios will continue operating. EA confirmed that “Battlefield” is still a major focus, and they plan to keep developing the game based on what players want and what they learn from Battlefield Labs.

Layoffs occurred as the game began to struggle after its initial popularity. Player numbers on Steam dropped significantly from a high of over 747,000 to just tens of thousands, and user reviews turned from mostly positive to mixed. Players also voiced ongoing concerns about the game’s cost, the use of AI-generated items, and a lack of new content.
The team delayed the launch of Season 2 to incorporate player feedback and recently shared a plan outlining updates for the next three months. Battlefield’s battle royale game, Redsec, hasn’t been well-received, currently having mostly negative reviews on Steam.
So, I was reading IGN, and apparently the recent layoffs at EA aren’t connected to that huge deal where they’re being bought out by a group including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and a couple of investment firms. They’re saying that sale isn’t expected to finalize until early in their 2027 fiscal year, so it’s totally separate from what’s happening now.
