Resident Evil 10 Unites Gamers Over Return Of One Classic Character

It’s been more than a week since Resident Evil Requiem (also called Resident Evil 9) came out, and now that many players have finished it – and are even starting second playthroughs – people are beginning to discuss what the game’s story means for the future of the popular Resident Evil series from Capcom.

If you haven’t finished Resident Evil Requiem yet, you might want to stop reading now, as we’re about to reveal major spoilers from the ending. But if you’re up to date, you’ll remember that Chris Redfield was mentioned when Leon and Grace met his team at the end of the game. With recent Resident Evil games hinting at his return, could Chris Redfield be the main character in the next installment, Resident Evil 10?

Resident Evil Fans Want Claire Redfield Back

It appears fans aren’t convinced this is the right Redfield for the next Resident Evil game. On the r/residentevil subreddit, many are hoping Resident Evil 10 will focus on Claire Redfield as the main character. The conversation started when one user asked whether the next game would star Chris, Jill, or, ideally, Claire, or introduce a brand new protagonist. While recent games seem to be building towards Chris as the lead, many expressed a strong desire for another Jill or Claire game, with one user noting Claire seems even less likely to return than Jill.

Claire Redfield first became a playable character in Resident Evil 2 and most recently appeared in the 2023 film Resident Evil: Death Island. However, she hasn’t been directly controlled by players since Resident Evil: Revelations 2 in 2015. That means it’s been ten years since fans could play as Claire, making her return in the next major Resident Evil game highly anticipated.

Claire Should Star In Resident Evil 10

A Resident Evil fan on Reddit expressed a sentiment many share: they desperately want a new game starring Claire Redfield. The user said they miss her a lot, and it’s a feeling I completely understand. While Leon Kennedy has been a mainstay, it might be time for a new protagonist to take the lead. Though a return for Grace seems doubtful, considering her personal life, Claire – as one of the series’ original heroes – truly deserves a modern-day adventure. However, as another fan pointed out, Capcom seems hesitant to feature older female characters as leads, leading many to believe we won’t see Jill or Claire in a major new game anytime soon. It’s a disappointing thought, and one I share.

Since Capcom is still benefiting from the popularity of Resident Evil Requiem, it will likely be several years before we learn who will star in Resident Evil 10. Many fans are hoping for Chris Redfield, with Claire being another popular choice, but it’s also possible a completely new character will take the lead. We’ll just have to wait and see.
