Great news for dark fantasy anime fans! Crunchyroll will now stream the series that used to be available only on Netflix, with fresh episodes arriving next month.
Crunchyroll has announced that all episodes of Season 1 are now available to watch worldwide (except in Japan and China) with Japanese audio and subtitles, as well as dubbed versions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Thai. The new season will also be streamed on Crunchyroll when it begins on April 1st. The series centers around Caiman, a character with a reptile head who suffers from amnesia. He teams up with a friend to recover his lost memories while navigating a dark, post-apocalyptic fantasy world.
Dorohedoro Season 2 Gets Crunchyroll Streaming Release Date
Dorohedoro is an anime series based on a 23-volume manga by Q Hayashida, which Viz Media has published in English. The first season was created by MAPPA and originally aired in Japan in 2020, becoming available on Netflix worldwide later that year. Now, Dorohedoro is streaming on Crunchyroll, making it accessible beyond Netflix for the first time and ending Netflix’s exclusive access to the series moving forward.
The first season’s music was composed by Hiroshi Seko, with character designs by Tomohiro Kishi and music by [K]NoW_NAME. Yuichiro Hayasha of MAPPA will direct the second season. New episodes of Dorohedoro were initially scheduled to premiere in 2025, but production faced some challenges and delays. However, a new promotional image released last month confirmed the season will now debut on April 1st. Fans can expect the continuation of the series’ signature blend of dark humor and action, following Caiman and Naikaido as they track down sorcerers in the Hole.
The story isn’t limited to just one location. It features action across three distinct worlds: a desolate, lawless wasteland called the Hole, the Sorcerer’s world run by a powerful crime boss, and Hell, where sorcerers are subject to the rule of demons.
Caiman spends the story trying to find the sorcerer who magically replaced his head with a lizard’s and stole his memories. Word gets around that a lizard-man is hunting sorcerers, and soon Caiman and his friend Nikaido are in serious trouble, constantly evading a team of assassins sent by a powerful magic user to eliminate them.
Although Dorohedoro used to stream exclusively on Netflix, it was available on other platforms in the past. In 2021, it received several nominations at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year, but Jujutsu Kaisen, another series from MAPPA, won that award.
Dorohedoro Season 1 is now streaming on Crunchyroll, with Season 2 arriving on April 1.
