Scrubs’ Missing Fan-Favorite Character Will Return On One Condition, Reveals Creator

Fans are excited about the possibility of a new season of the popular comedy Scrubs, and one beloved character has hinted at a return – but only if certain conditions are met.

The revival of Scrubs brings back J.D. (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison), best friends and colleagues, to Sacred Heart Hospital after 15 years. J.D. has returned from working as a concierge doctor to take on the role of Chief of Medicine. The new series will feature a fresh, younger group of interns, while also bringing back beloved characters and a nostalgic feel for fans.

Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, recently addressed fan requests for Ken Jenkins to reprise his role as Dr. Bob Kelso. On X, he mentioned that if the revival series gets renewed for another season, they will attempt to bring Jenkins back, though acknowledging he is older. This suggests Kelso won’t be in the initial season, but a potential second season could make his return possible.

The upcoming 2026 revival of Scrubs is getting a lot of positive attention, earning a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Ben Gibbons of ScreenRant, many TV shows and movies are trying to reboot popular titles with mixed success, but Scrubs seems to have found the right formula. It’s often difficult to recreate the charm of an original show, but Scrubs has managed to maintain the humor that made the original series so beloved.

The series has quickly become popular on Disney+ in the U.S., reaching the top 10 and becoming the most-watched show for subscribers. Given the overwhelmingly positive response and strong viewership, another season seems highly likely, despite no official announcement yet.

All new episodes of Scrubs air on Wednesdays at 8:00 PM on ABC.
