So, the ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful Ally X are coming out in less than a month, and honestly, I’m a little worried about the price. Microsoft and Asus haven’t officially said how much these Xbox handhelds will cost yet, which is super frustrating. Because of that, we don’t even know when pre-orders will open up before the October 16th launch. Hopefully, we’ll get some answers really soon, though! I’m dying to know if I can afford one.
Xbox is holding a livestream at Tokyo Game Show this week, and we expect to learn more details during the event. Their presentation is scheduled for Thursday, September 25th, at 3 AM Pacific Time / 6 AM Eastern Time. Attendees at the show will also have a chance to test out Xbox’s new handheld devices.
There’s been a lot of online speculation about the cost of the new handheld gaming devices co-created by Xbox and Asus. Listings for both models briefly appeared on Amazon and Best Buy. Amazon has since removed those listings, but Best Buy still shows them on their website. For a short time, the ROG Xbox Ally was listed for $550, and the ROG Xbox Ally X for $850. However, those prices were quickly taken down, suggesting the final prices may be different. Current US tariffs are likely influencing the pricing, especially since Microsoft recently announced a price increase for the Xbox Series X|S consoles, effective October 3rd. Therefore, the $550 and $850 figures are probably optimistic estimates.
For now, check out the specifications of each model below.
Because of the Xbox branding, people will naturally compare the ROG Ally and Ally X to the Xbox Series X|S. However, it’s important to understand these aren’t true Xbox handhelds. They’re Windows PCs with a special interface designed to feel like Xbox. Ultimately, the Ally plays PC versions of games, so its price will be similar to other Windows handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw. The good news is, you’re not limited to just the Xbox Store – you can also use Steam, GOG Galaxy, the Epic Games Store, and any other PC game platform that works with Windows.
ROG Xbox Ally Official Accessories
- 100W Charger Dock — $100
- Carrying Case — $70
As a big fan, I was excited to find out the prices for some official ROG Ally accessories! Asus is selling a really handy hardshell carrying case for $70 – it even has a built-in stand and a little pouch for storing extras. They also have a 100W Charger Dock, which is basically a power adapter, but it’s super useful because it includes an HDMI 2.0 port and two USB ports. That means I can easily connect my Ally to a monitor or TV for gaming!
