Lily James will star in a new version of the action film *Cliffhanger*, taking on a role originally made famous by Sylvester Stallone. She’ll be reunited with her *Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again* co-star, Pierce Brosnan, who will play a father whose daughter is kidnapped while they’re on vacation in the Italian Dolomites. It will then fall to his other daughter, played by James, to face her fears and rescue them both. As is often the case in these stories, the responsibility lands on the eldest child.
The remake of *Cliffhanger* was announced at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is currently still being edited and finalized. Jaume Collet-Serra, known for *Carry-On*, is directing, and the script was written by Ana Lily Amirpour (*A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night*) along with Sascha Penn, Mark Bianculli, and Melanie Toast. It’s expected to be released around 2026.
