In a recent interview, Zack Snyder discussed the possibility of continuing the ‘Snyderverse’ and also offered a strong rebuke to those who criticize his fans, using explicit language.
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the director of the DC Extended Universe spoke with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He discussed the often-debated film and looked back on his work with DC superhero movies.
This discussion happens as DC Studios begins a fresh start with James Gunn and Peter Safran leading the way. Gunn’s new Superman movie will launch a completely reimagined DC Universe, effectively ending the previous series of connected films and shows.
Although Snyder appreciated the new creative choices, he didn’t shy away from addressing the often-criticized behavior of fans within the ‘Snyderverse’ community, which some online have labeled as ‘toxic’.
Zack Snyder defends Snyderverse fans after “toxic” label
In the interview, Snyder discussed concerns about whether fans of his vision for the Justice League movie became too forceful while advocating for his preferred cut to be released.
After Zack Snyder stepped down from directing the 2017 film Justice League and a different version was released in theaters, fans started a campaign online—#ReleasetheSnyderCut—to see his original vision. After years of effort, that campaign succeeded, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League premiered on HBO Max in 2021.
Looking back on that time, Snyder explained the fan campaign wasn’t just about wanting a director’s cut of the film. Fans also came together to raise $500,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, in memory of his daughter, Autumn, who passed away in 2017.
He emphasized that fans deserve credit for making The Snyder Cut happen, noting, “They shouldn’t forget they did that.” He also highlighted the positive impact of the movement, saying they raised a significant amount of money for suicide prevention and made a real difference.
People often criticize them and call them negative, but they genuinely saved lives. Anyone who disagrees with that can expect a harsh response.
Could the Snyderverse return?

Snyder also talked about the possibility of his planned Justice League sequels ever being made.
He said he wouldn’t rule anything out, referring to the efforts to release his version of the DC film. Snyder admitted there were moments he thought his cut would never see the light of day, but ultimately, it did happen.
However, Snyder didn’t indicate that the story would continue. He explained that his vision for DC was a complete, self-contained story – a ‘mythological universe’ meant to develop fully and then finish, rather than go on forever.
The director also stated he has no negative feelings toward the current DCU leadership, praising James Gunn as “very cool” and calling Gunn’s vision for Superman “amazing.” He expressed his sincere good wishes for their success.

Snyder clarified that his previous DC films exist as their own creative work and aren’t meant to compete with the new DC Universe being developed by James Gunn.
