Sony reportedly “backing away” from PC ports for major PlayStation exclusives

According to Jason Schreier, Sony is reconsidering how it releases its single-player PlayStation games on PC.

Sony recently started releasing its PlayStation games on PCs, beginning in 2025 with titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which became available on Steam shortly after launching on PlayStation 5. This move signaled Sony’s intention to expand beyond just consoles, making any discussion of ending PC support feel particularly significant.

Sony signals retreat from single-player PC ports

In a recent episode of his Triple Click podcast, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Sony seems happy to release online, ongoing-service games on PC. However, they’re less enthusiastic about bringing their typical single-player games to the platform. Schreier wondered if these PC releases have been profitable enough and hinted that Sony might prioritize console releases again.

He stressed that his comments weren’t just guesses. Schreier explained that he sometimes mentions story ideas on his show before he’s fully prepared to publish a full report, and indicated he’ll be sharing more information soon, meaning he’s still working on the story.

John Linneman from Digital Foundry shared a similar opinion, suggesting Sony is shifting away from PC gaming. He explained that truly supporting PC would mean releasing big, story-driven games on both platforms simultaneously, which Sony hasn’t been willing to do.

While Sony hasn’t officially announced any changes, reports indicate they’re considering new strategies. This happens as the gaming industry itself is evolving, with Microsoft recently overhauling its Xbox leadership and approach to gaming on different devices.
