HBO’s show Industry, which follows ambitious and ethically ambiguous young professionals in the world of finance, has been airing its fourth season for several weeks now. Despite being a fantastic season, it hasn’t gotten nearly the attention it deserves.
The show’s fifth season, recently confirmed as the last by HBO, may bring a satisfying conclusion. Creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay explained they’ve been considering how to end the series at its peak. “We know when to call it quits, unlike some of our characters,” they said. They expressed gratitude to their dedicated fans, especially those who’ve been with the show since the beginning, and praised the incredible cast and crew for bringing their writing to life. They are proud of the performances that will ensure the characters remain memorable and are excited to continue working with HBO in the future, which they consider the best place to create television.
The latest season of Industry is its strongest so far. Harper Stern is now managing her own fund, while Yasmin navigates a difficult relationship with Sir Henry Muck. The central conflict revolves around Pierpoint, the established investment bank where many characters began their careers, and Tender, a questionable fintech company trying to disrupt the traditional banking world.

‘Industry’ Deserves An Epic Victory Lap
I’ve been watching Industry for a while now, and it’s one of those shows that steadily improves with each season – it’s really hit its stride. It hasn’t exploded into a massive cultural moment, which is surprising, because the latest season is fantastic. HBO recently shared that viewership is up about 30% globally compared to last season, and episodes are averaging 1.7 million viewers in the U.S. and still climbing. It feels like it’s finally starting to get the attention it deserves.
As the show has progressed, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay have become more assured, handling both the writing for most episodes and directing several in season four. If they maintain this creative control into season five, Industry could follow a path similar to Breaking Bad – starting with a dedicated fanbase and then experiencing a surge in popularity as more viewers discovered its quality. Another relevant comparison is Succession, another well-written HBO drama focused on the lives of the rich and powerful, which also reached its highest point in its final season – a similar fate could await Industry.
Since its 2020 debut, HBO has released a new season of Industry every two years. While HBO hasn’t announced a premiere date for the fifth and final season, if the show continues its current schedule, we can expect to see the last episodes in 2028.
HBO has been trying to consistently release new shows each year, with series like The Pitt and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms being examples. Given that season four of Industry is coming out early in 2026 and will be the final season, HBO might invest more in it and aim to release season five by 2027.
