As Willbur and Caleb reconnect in season 4 of Will Trent, they get the chance to work together on a case, which also forces them to confront their complicated relationship. Though they clash while investigating, they ultimately have more in common than they realize.

Though it won’t be a romance, Will’s complex relationship with Caleb will give his storyline the emotional depth it needs after his connection with Angie ended. Their shared past – or lack of one – will heavily influence how they interact in the future. Many viewers are hoping Will finds love again, and there’s speculation that Sara Linton, a significant character from the original books, might finally be introduced as a potential partner.

Why Caleb’s Relationship With Will Could Be Will Trent’s Best Story

The TV adaptation of Will Trent has made some changes to the source novel, but the biggest difference lies in how they reimagined Will Trent’s biological father. In the books, his father is James Ulster, a man with a criminal record. The show introduced the character, played by Greg Germann, and instead made him Will’s main adversary, deviating from the original story.

Now that things have shifted, the show has more freedom to explore the complex relationship between Will and his father. Even though they have a lot of unresolved tension, it’s clear Will is trying to bring them closer. It’s uncertain if they’ll ever be truly close, but even small improvements in their relationship are rewarding, especially given their difficult history.
