A street artist was held by authorities after painting a popular image of a baby monkey named Punch on a wall at a zoo in Poland that was designated as protected.
The artist was creating a mural called ‘Punch’ at the Old Zoo in Poznan, Poland – a historically protected site – when police interrupted their work. After questioning, the artist was allowed to leave, according to reports from Polish news source Interia Zielona.
I was so surprised to hear about the whole situation! Apparently, the police questioned the artist, a 28-year-old, because the building he painted on is a historic landmark. Thankfully, they didn’t press charges. But now, get this – the zoo is actually thinking about keeping the artwork instead of painting over it! It’s a really unexpected turn of events, and I’m kind of hoping they go for it.

So, even though they took down my Punch graffiti at first, the zoo people actually reached out! They said they know a lot of people like it and they’re thinking about moving it to a spot inside the zoo instead of just getting rid of it completely. That’s awesome, right? Hopefully, it’ll stay up where everyone can see it!
An artist named Kawu recently shared their artwork on Instagram, and it’s getting a lot of positive attention. The piece, created with spray paint, depicts the popular character Punch cuddling with his famous IKEA monkey toy. A time-lapse video of the artwork’s creation is also available.

Since Ichikawa Zoo shared photos of Punch cuddling his stuffed monkey, people have been visiting the zoo in large numbers, and fans around the world have been following updates from the zoo’s team.
