AMC removed an AI-generated movie from its theaters following negative reactions online, but stated they weren’t the ones who initially decided to show it.
Okay, so as a gamer, I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about AI making movies, and honestly, it’s kinda freaky. Those little AI-generated clips keep popping up online and looking good, and it’s got me thinking about what Hollywood will even look like in a few years. I even heard Matthew McConaughey say he thinks AI is going to start showing up at the Oscars eventually, which is wild!
The debate over AI-generated content has resurfaced, recently gaining attention when a realistic fight scene featuring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise was created using artificial intelligence. This clip, generated by Bytedance’s Seedance tool, prompted the Motion Picture Association to issue a legal notice demanding its removal.
AMC Theatres has signaled its position on films made with artificial intelligence by removing a short film from its cinemas.
AMC says it did not approve Thanksgiving Day in its pre-roll advertisements

Igor Alferov’s short film, ‘Thanksgiving Day,’ was originally planned to play before movies at AMC theaters. However, the announcement received negative reactions online. The film, which features a bear and a platypus traveling through space, previously won an award at the Frame Forward AI Generated Film Festival in February.
The film was originally scheduled to play in theaters for two weeks as a prize, but strong negative reactions on social media led AMC to cancel the release entirely.
The company clarified to The Hollywood Reporter that it doesn’t control the ads shown before movies. Screenvision Media, the company responsible for managing those pre-movie ads, made the decision to include Thanksgiving Day content.
This content is brought to you by Screenvision Media, a company that handles pre-movie ads for many US theaters. However, it’s only playing in less than 30% of AMC theaters nationwide, and AMC itself didn’t create the content and has said its theaters won’t be showing it.
Screenvision Media hosted the Frame Forward festival and regularly partners with movie theaters to show ads and trailers before films. It’s currently unknown whether the film ‘Thanksgiving Day’ will be shown in theaters across the country beyond those involved with the festival.
I was really fascinated to hear how Alferov made that Thanksgiving Day short film! He said he used Gemini 3.1 and Nana Banana Pro, which is cool, but what really struck me was his take on AI. He doesn’t see it as something that replaces artists, but as a tool that can supercharge creativity – like an ‘exoskeleton’ for your imagination, letting one person create whole worlds. I think that’s a really insightful way to look at it.
