At the 30th anniversary celebration of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hideaki Anno shared a heartfelt message of gratitude, thanking both the dedicated fans and the colleagues he’s worked with for years. He also expressed his appreciation for his wife, who has been a source of support for over two decades.
As a huge Evangelion fan, I was so excited to hear about the 30th anniversary event in Yokohama, Japan! It was amazing to see all the voice actors and people who worked on the anime come together with fans like me to celebrate 30 years since it first aired. It was a really special three days!
The event concluded with performances by voice actors and a Kabuki play inspired by Evangelion. It was also revealed that Yoko Taro, known for Nier: Automata, will be heading up the development of a brand new Evangelion series.
It was really cool to hear Hideaki Anno, the creator of Evangelion, talk about how much the series has grown since it first came out way back in 1995, especially with all the recent celebrations going on. It’s amazing to think about how far it’s come!
Eva creator thanks fans, staff, and his wife
In a recent interview with Oricon News, the creator of Evangelion expressed amazement at how the series has evolved, comparing it to traditional Japanese performing arts like rakugo and kabuki. He shared that he now sees Evangelion as a genuinely joyful creation, and wonders if it always was.
He thanked the production crews and the fans for keeping the show going strong for over thirty years.
Evangelion wouldn’t be where it is today without the dedication of our staff and, most importantly, the incredible support of our fans. We are deeply grateful for everything.

Hideaki Anno also spoke about Kazuya Tsurumaki, a frequent collaborator who directed several of the Rebuild of Evangelion films and has worked with him on the Evangelion series for many years.
As a huge fan, it really touches me to hear Anno talk about how this incredibly talented artist could have easily struck out on his own and done anything he wanted. But he chose to stick with Evangelion, dedicating his skills to my projects, and I’m just so thankful for that commitment. It means the world!
After expressing his thanks to his team and partners, Anno finished with a heartfelt message, thanking his wife of over 20 years.
I’m incredibly grateful for everyone – the staff, the fans, and especially my wife, who’s been my rock for over 20 years. Thank you to all of you.
The anniversary event included special content shown only to those attending, and while organizers warned against it, recordings have since appeared online alongside Anno’s expressions of gratitude.
