In North Carolina, police stopped a 12-year-old boy who was driving himself to school. He’d made up a fake license plate after missing his bus.
Using public transportation to get to school, work, or social events can be really frustrating. A single delay, like a late train or bus, can easily throw off your entire day, causing you to be late or even have to cancel what you had planned.
In Monroe, North Carolina, a 12-year-old boy attempted to drive himself to school after missing his bus.
Police in Monroe stopped a 12-year-old boy, whose name hasn’t been released, after noticing some unusual activity and discovering the car he was driving had a fake license plate. It quickly became clear he was too young to be driving.
12-year-old found driving car to school
The officer investigating found that the driver was a 12-year-old who decided to drive to school because he missed his bus, according to a Facebook post by the police department.
A School Resource Officer was called and arrived to help. They safely brought the child to school, and no further problems occurred. The vehicle was secured, and school officials took custody of the child.
Police emphasized the importance of parents and guardians keeping car keys out of reach of children. They explained that letting a child who isn’t licensed drive a car is dangerous for both the child and everyone else on the road.
This isn’t the first time a young driver has been caught recently. Last December, police pursued three children – ages 8, 11, and 12 – who were driving at speeds reaching 80 miles per hour.
In Ohio, a car driven by an 11-year-old crashed into a recovery home for men. After a short chase on foot, police told the children involved, “You’re not very good at driving.”
