TeamSpeak flooded with new users amid backlash to Discord’s age checks

Since Discord announced it will soon require age verification for all users, many are switching to other platforms. TeamSpeak, for example, has reported being fully booked in several areas due to the increased demand.

Discord announced on February 10, 2026, that its new “Teen By Default” program will launch globally in early March. This update includes improved safety features and ways to confirm users’ ages, such as estimating age from facial features and verifying IDs with help from outside companies.

Almost immediately after the news came out, people started talking about other options online. By February 14th, TeamSpeak reported a large increase in new users joining their platform.

TeamSpeak announced on X that they’re currently experiencing high demand, especially in the United States, leading to some hosting areas reaching their limits. They’re working to increase capacity in more locations and appreciate users’ patience as they expand to accommodate everyone.

What is TeamSpeak?

TeamSpeak is a program that lets people create and connect to private voice chat servers. It’s popular with gamers, esports teams, and online communities who need clear, quick communication with minimal delay.

TeamSpeak was a popular voice chat program for PC gamers in the early 2000s, well before Discord became well-known in 2015. It was a go-to for games like Counter-Strike, World of Warcraft, and Battlefield, where players needed to communicate effectively as a team.

While Discord offers a complete platform with text, voice, video, and community features all in one place, TeamSpeak has traditionally specialized in voice communication. TeamSpeak lets communities rent or create their own servers, giving them full control over settings, access, and moderation.

TeamSpeak remained active and continued to improve its software even after Discord became popular in 2015, offering a simpler, free experience. TeamSpeak now focuses on privacy, letting users host their own servers and customize them with detailed controls.

After Discord recently changed its policies, many users started looking for other options, and now TeamSpeak is adding more resources to handle a surge in new users.
