Rosalía is having a remarkably busy year, balancing album promotion, a tour, and a role on the show Euphoria. The Euphoria part is unexpected, as she’s only acted once before—in a brief appearance in Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory. However, she’s found a surprising connection between her music and the character she plays. In a February 10th interview with Vogue, she explained, “I was surprised to find a connection between the two,” adding that she didn’t anticipate it.
I’m completely fascinated by this artist! Seeing her in the trailer for the new season of Euphoria – as a dancer wearing a jeweled neck brace – was such a shock, especially after listening to her recent album, Lux, which is so spiritual and beautiful. Apparently, there’s a real connection between the two! Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria, actually talked about how they realized the themes of her album and the new season lined up in surprising ways. He said hearing Lux really moved him, and the song ‘Divinize’ specifically made him see she’d created something truly special and powerful.
Although the show and the album are related, the part wasn’t originally created with Rosalía in mind. According to Levinson, she had a fantastic audition and was a natural fit for the character – funny, strong, and emotionally complex. He also loved her accent, feeling she was perfect for the role. As for whether this captivating, wounded dancer is a religious person, that remains a mystery.
