To mark its 10th anniversary, Kojima Productions-the studio behind popular games and the creator of Pokémon Go-has partnered with Niantic to develop new, groundbreaking immersive experiences.
Like with Kojima’s Death Stranding series, much remains shrouded in mystery about this new project.
According to the announcement, this marks a significant step for Kojima Productions, as they explore opportunities outside of typical video games. For Niantic Spatial, it demonstrates how their AI technology can change the way we and machines perceive and engage with the real world.
Niantic Spatial, formerly known as the creator of Pokémon Go, is shifting its focus to artificial intelligence and location-based technology. The Pokémon Go game and its development team have been sold to Saudi Arabia.
Kojima explained that his games are currently limited to being played on screens, but partnering with Niantic will let him bring those games into the real world.
Kojima expressed his enthusiasm for working together to build immersive experiences that combine real-world mountain climbing with entertainment and social connection. He’s looking forward to creating these new adventures collaboratively.
As a huge Death Stranding fan, I was so excited to hear Hideo Kojima talk about the new experience coming with Beyond the Strand! He explained (according to VGC) that it’s going to feel just like playing the game, but in the real world – you’ll be able to connect with other players and actually interact with your city in a whole new way. It sounds incredible!
Niantic CEO John Hanke announced the company is building a dynamic, interactive map of the world that can be understood by both people and computers. He believes this will create exciting new opportunities for real-world stories and experiences.
To generate excitement for their latest project, Kojima Productions created a live-action video titled “A New Dawn.” The video features actor Zane Haney and was directed and written by Ei Uehara and Corey Finn.
At the Beyond the Strand event, Kojima Productions shared fresh looks at two upcoming games: OD, which will be published by Xbox, and Physint, published by Sony. Hideo Kojima also revealed plans for a new credit card.
