Popular YouTuber MrBeast shared that a bald eagle, legally protected, caused him to move an already very costly video shoot that had already cost millions of dollars.
Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and shared that a problem occurred while shooting one of his popular challenge videos. These videos involve giving participants a valuable prize and challenging them to guard it.
MrBeast explained that the video featured a contestant trying to save a yacht from being sunk by 20 cannons. They were given unlimited money to do so, and the yacht was placed in a lake as part of the challenge.
How a bald eagle cost MrBeast millions
I basically handed someone a yacht, told them to use my credit card, and challenged them to prevent twenty cannons from destroying it, as I explained to Jimmy Fallon.
Right before filming was about to start, the production had to be stopped because a protected bird was seen in the area.
MrBeast explained that right before they were about to film a scene with cannons, they discovered a bald eagle nearby. He learned that it’s illegal to make loud noises close to a bald eagle’s nest because these birds are protected, and noise could frighten them away. They had already spent millions of dollars preparing for the shoot.
He added that there was no workaround once the situation became clear.
We jokingly wondered if we could just move the bird’s nest, but apparently that’s illegal! So, we ended up having to pack everything and spend a lot of money to relocate to a different lake.
It’s against the law to bother bald eagle nests or create situations that might make them leave, and you could face significant fines or other punishments for doing so.
MrBeast said the experience was an expensive lesson in planning outdoor shoots at scale.
“Now I know to survey the area for bald eagles,” he joked.
