Currently being built, the Trong Dong Stadium will be the world’s biggest stadium designed specifically for football, able to hold 135,000 spectators.
When completed, Trong Dong Stadium in Hanoi will become the largest football stadium in the world, holding more fans than both Narendra Modi Stadium in India and the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in North Korea. Unlike many other huge stadiums that host various sports, this venue is specifically designed for football and won’t have a running track, bringing spectators closer to the action.
This project will heavily feature cutting-edge technology. A key element is a planned retractable roof, expected to be the largest of its kind globally, which will let the stadium be used in all types of weather and throughout the year.
The new stadium will have a cutting-edge, AI-controlled field that can be completely replaced in just six to ten hours. It will also be fully equipped with 5G technology, smart seats, and a security system that provides live monitoring throughout the entire venue.
Get ready for what could be the world’s largest stadium! The Trong Dong Stadium, planned near Hanoi, Vietnam, is an incredibly ambitious project. If built, this football stadium would hold around 135,000 fans, making it the biggest of its kind…

Trong Dong Stadium to be completed by 2028
The new stadium was designed with sustainability in mind. It will use natural airflow for ventilation and a sophisticated water recycling system, which is expected to cut down on regular water use by as much as 70%. This highlights Vietnam’s increasing commitment to building environmentally friendly facilities.
Trong Dong Stadium’s design is deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture. The stadium’s circular shape was inspired by the Dong Son bronze drum, an important and ancient symbol of Vietnamese history.
The building’s exterior will showcase designs inspired by the Lạc bird, a symbol of Vietnamese strength and heritage. The construction will draw on modern engineering techniques used in world-class stadiums like Wembley and Lusail Stadium, but will also celebrate local culture and traditions.
I’m really excited about the new stadium – it’s not just a building, but the heart of a huge new urban area called the Olympic Sports Urban Area. It’s a massive project being led by Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s biggest companies, and it’s going to be amazing!
This massive development project is expected to cost over $35 billion and cover more than 9,000 hectares. Future plans include building homes for around 750,000 residents, establishing high-speed rail links, constructing a hospital, and even creating a facility specifically for esports.
Construction began in Thượng Phúc commune, near Hanoi, on December 19, 2025, and is currently ongoing. The project is expected to be finished by August 2028.
This project is one piece of a larger effort to upgrade sports facilities across Vietnam, joining other major constructions like the 60,000-seat PVF Stadium and the 50,000-seat Rach Chiec Stadium.
So, they’re building this massive sports complex, the Olympic Sports Urban Area, and the plan is to have it all finished by 2035. Honestly, it’s pretty ambitious – they’re hoping this will put Vietnam on the map and maybe even let us host huge events like the World Cup, the Olympics, or the Asian Games someday. As a gamer, I’m picturing epic esports tournaments there too, if they build it right!
