Popular tech reviewer Linus Sebastian is responding to claims made by a former employee who posted a viral video explaining their resignation. The ex-employee cited concerns about unchanging wages and changes within the company’s work environment as reasons for leaving.
Linus Sebastian, the creator of the popular YouTube channel ‘Linus Tech Tips,’ is stepping back due to recent issues involving him and his company, Linus Media Group (LMG).
The company faced claims of a negative workplace culture in 2024, and similar problems resurfaced in 2026. This time, a former employee named Jake Tivy explained his reasons for leaving in a YouTube video.
Tivy expressed feeling unappreciated at work, explaining that his salary hadn’t increased in three years, even though the cost of living where he lives had gone up. He said LMG wouldn’t consider giving him a raise.
He explained that while building a third house for his boss, he began to wonder if he’d ever be able to afford a home of his own. He also noted that the job he’d initially accepted had changed dramatically by the time he decided to quit.
Linus Tech Tips fires back at former employee’s viral video
So, after that video came out, Linus finally responded about a week later. It started with a tweet on February 6th, and that tweet actually linked to a YouTube video where he explained his side of things.
He announced his departure from Linus Media Group with a new video on his personal channel. He shared a thumbnail of himself waving and the message, ‘It’s time.’
The link actually led to the popular ‘Rickroll’ video, disguised with the title ‘Cute Little Puppy Doing Cute Things.’ Linus was clearly making fun of Tivy’s video, and he continued to do so in several replies to the post.

One user wondered if Linus was worried about a negative reaction, pointing out that several recent employees who left the company had shared very heartfelt and respectful videos about their experiences.

“Linus is lowkey slowly not giving a f*ck anymore,” another said.
Linus explained he’d searched everywhere – his wallet, bank account, and all three of his homes – but had nothing left to give.

This isn’t the first time Linus and Linus Media Group have faced criticism. In 2024, a former employee publicly accused the company of creating a harmful work environment and reported being sexually assaulted by colleagues, also alleging bullying and unprofessional conduct.
Vancouver law firm Roper Greyell investigated the claims made by the staffer, and their investigation found no evidence to support allegations of workplace bullying or sexual harassment.
