Rumors suggest Marvel Studios might divide Avengers: Secret Wars into two movies, effectively turning it into a three-part series starting with Doomsday this year. The idea of splitting Secret Wars isn’t new – discussions began as early as 2023 with Jonathan Majors’ Kang intended as the main villain. Although those talks quieted down, they’re resurfacing now, and seem more likely given that filming for Avengers 6 is scheduled to begin soon.
According to Alex Perez in The Cosmic Circus’ February Q&A, there’s a strong possibility that Avengers: Secret Wars will be split into two movies. If that happens, it would effectively turn the story into a three-part series, consisting of Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars Part 1, and Secret Wars Part 2.
According to reports, production on Secret Wars has been put on hold, even though it was previously given the green light to begin soon. The Cosmic Circus explains this ‘conditional start phase’ means filming can’t proceed until new contracts are finalized. This situation is similar to past instances where Marvel Studios had to delay projects – like when they decided to split a movie into two – until new agreements were in place.
John Rocha shared on the Hot Mic podcast that the Doomsday project is expected to be very large, potentially lasting three hours. He also stated that Marvel Studios is thinking about releasing Secret Wars as two separate movies.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the upcoming Secret Wars movie might be released in two parts, but that decision hinges on how well Doomsday performs. This presents a logistical challenge, as filming for Avengers 6 is set to begin this spring and finish before Avengers 5 even comes out in December, making it difficult to gauge its success and inform the Secret Wars plan.
As a huge Marvel fan, I was following the rumors about Secret Wars being split into two movies. Well, MyTimeToShineHello reported back in November 2025 that the studio had actually decided against splitting it. It’s worth remembering that was a while ago, so things could have changed since then and they might be considering the two-part approach again.
Will Marvel Studios Actually Split Avengers: Secret Wars?

Disney investors will likely be excited about plans for a new Avengers trilogy, potentially released over three years, considering each film in the franchise typically earns around $1.9 billion at the box office. While money is a factor, the decision also makes sense creatively, as the Secret Wars storyline is large enough to justify a longer, multi-film arc. However, dividing the story into three movies would present significant challenges in terms of planning and production.
Okay, so Marvel’s planning to include Secret Wars – Part Two in Phase 6, probably around 2028, and that’s going to push back the start of Phase 7. It makes sense though, because the next stories for Black Panther 3 and the first official X-Men movie will likely build directly off the ending of Secret Wars. That film is basically setting up the big, soft reboot the MCU has been hinting at, so everything needs to fall into place after that.
Even if Marvel splits the Secret Wars movie into two parts, it could create problems with actor and director contracts. This might be difficult for the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr., as the directors already earned $80 million for their work on the previous Avengers films, and the actor playing Doctor Doom reportedly made a much larger amount (according to Variety).
It’s still unclear how Marvel Studios will handle the two-part story of Secret Wars, but major changes seem unlikely. It’s more probable that Secret Wars will be a single, very lengthy film, similar to how Doomsday was unusually long and may even set a new record for runtime.
If Marvel doesn’t film additional scenes for a potential two-part Secret Wars movie after Doomsday, fans might get a clearer picture of what’s coming at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Marvel is expected to have a significant presence at Comic-Con this year, especially with the releases of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, and we could see some major announcements.
