Popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, addressed the idea of investing $100 million into a college football team to help them win.
College football has seen a huge influx of money recently. Players can now earn money through endorsements – using their name, image, and likeness – and this has led to the return of the popular NCAA Football video game. Additionally, wealthy alumni are investing heavily in their favorite colleges.
College football is increasingly becoming a competition to spend the most money, similar to the NFL, with players now being compensated to switch schools and coaches earning record-high salaries.
It’s not surprising people think MrBeast might get involved. Because he’s from Greenville, North Carolina, many fans have suggested he could invest in East Carolina University and help revitalize their football program.
MrBeast responds to idea of $100m backing for ECU football
Back in December, the podcast TheRealOShow speculated that MrBeast could invest $100 million into a program to quickly make it a national champion.
Someone on Instagram joked about a YouTuber spending $100 million on East Carolina University’s football program, similar to a stunt from one of their videos, and attempting to win a national championship. They called it a potentially brilliant idea for a YouTube video.
On February 3rd, the YouTuber gave East Carolina fans a reason to be optimistic. He asked, “Should I do this?” and included several crying emojis in his message.

As noted by the East Carolina University fan site HoistTheColours, MrBeast has close ties to the school. In November 2022, he and ECU announced they were collaborating on an online course focused on the creator economy.
They also mentioned that MrBeast’s team and East Carolina University have been discussing potential funding, with the university proposing a documentary offering complete access.
Sources indicate that another meeting between representatives from MrBeast and East Carolina University is likely to occur, with discussions reportedly taking place for several weeks, according to HoistTheColours.
This would definitely be a noteworthy decision, and the largest investment of its kind from YouTube into college football.
Donaldson is well-connected in the football world, having once led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers onto the field before a game. He’s now appearing in a Super Bowl commercial as well.
