A24 is officially developing the next chapter in the popular horror series. This announcement follows their acquisition of the film and TV rights about five months ago.
A24 is developing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre TV series, and JT Mollner will be the writer. Mollner gained recognition for his 2024 crime thriller Strange Darling, which received positive reviews. He also wrote the script for a film adaptation of , scheduled for release in 2025.
I’ve always believed in leaving classic films untouched, and ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ is one of those. It was a daring and groundbreaking horror film created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel, and it remains the best example of its kind even now,” Mollner explained.
When I got the chance to really dive deep into this world and tell a longer story, I was thrilled. It felt like a way to both approach the material with something new and pay respect to the original legends. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with than A24 – it’s a real honor to be collaborating with them on this.
Glen Powell Is Attached to A24’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre Series
Roy Lee and Steven Schneider from Spooky Pictures, along with Stuart Manashil, Ben Ross of Image Nation, Glen Powell and Dan Cohen from Barnstorm, and Kim Henkel of Exurbia Films (who also helped create the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre series) all served as executive producers.
Despite hopes of seeing him act in it, Powell is currently only producing the project. Originally from Texas, he recently expressed how meaningful it is to him to be involved in the future of this series.
Powell stated that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a personal favorite and a hugely influential horror film. Even decades after its release, it’s still considered a landmark movie for Texas. He expressed excitement about Barnstorm’s involvement in creating a new installment for this classic franchise.
I’m so excited about this project! Working with A24 and the incredibly talented JT Mollner is a dream come true, and I truly believe we’ve assembled the best possible team to bring this amazing property to life. I couldn’t ask for better partners.
In March 2025, Verve started an auction to determine who would create the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. Several companies were interested, but A24, Mollner, and Powell teamed up and ultimately won the rights last September with a plan for a television series.
The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre series will premiere first, but a movie is also being planned with the same producers and ImageNation. However, Mollner won’t be involved in the film, and details are still being worked out.
