A man in Florida stole nearly $4,000 worth of meat from a grocery store, but then abandoned it after discovering his girlfriend at home with another man, and they were cooking together.
In early January, Heannys O. Alvarez Reyna, a 30-year-old living in Jacksonville, Florida, was seen on camera stealing meat from two Publix stores. At one store in Belle Terre, she took beef and lamb worth over $1,500.
Twenty minutes later, Alvarez Reyna was seen entering a Publix in Island Walk, where he purchased pork, sirloin, brisket, tenderloin, and personal care products. CBS 12 reported this purchase totaled approximately $2084, bringing the overall spending to just under $4000.
After finishing his shoplifting, the 30-year-old man went to his girlfriend’s house. When he arrived, he found her cooking with another man, so he left and threw the stolen meat away.
Man arrested after stealing almost $4k worth of meat
Alvarez Reyna was arrested for stealing from a store and is currently being held in jail in Bunnell, Florida.
Sheriff Rick Staly stated on January 30th that this wasn’t a simple case of shoplifting to save money. It was a carefully planned and large-scale theft that resulted in substantial losses for two stores.
Even if their relationship was failing, stealing isn’t the answer to their problems. Simply put, if you steal from our stores, we will catch you and you’ll face the consequences.
Okay, so the sheriff’s department’s Facebook page is blowing up! They’ve been posting these really cheesy meat-related puns, and honestly, it’s hilarious. Everyone’s jumping in with their own jokes, which is awesome. But, I’ve seen a bunch of people who genuinely thought the department wasn’t being serious – they couldn’t believe it was real! It’s a wild mix of amusement and disbelief out there.
People found the story highly amusing, with many commenting that it read like satire. One person said it was ‘too much fun,’ while another thought it sounded like a joke. Several readers even initially believed it was a piece from the satirical news site, The Onion.
In other news, Floridians have been going viral for picking up iguanas that have been left “frozen” by the “ice cold” temperatures in South Florida.
