The popular Netflix series, Finding Her Edge, has been renewed for a second season. Inspired by Jennifer Iacopelli’s novel, the show centers around figure skater Adriana Russo, who is working hard to compete at the World Championships while also trying to keep her family’s ice rink afloat and navigating a complicated love life.
The movie Finding Her Edge features Madelyn Keys as Adriana Russo, alongside Cale Ambrozic as her new skating partner, Brayden Elliot, and Olly Atkins as Freddie O’Connell, her ex-boyfriend and previous partner. The cast also includes Alexandra Beaton, Alice Malakhov, Millie Davis, Harmon Walsh, Meredith Forlenza, and Niko Ceci.
Netflix announced on its Tudum site that “Finding Her Edge” will return for a second season, only two weeks after it first started streaming. Creator Iacopelli shared a statement expressing her enthusiasm for the show’s positive reception and excitement about what’s to come for viewers. You can read her full statement below.
I’m thrilled with the amazing response to Finding Her Edge from viewers around the globe! Seeing my book adapted and watching people connect with the characters has always been a dream, and I’m so excited that dream will continue with a second season. I can’t wait for everyone to see what happens next with Adriana, Brayden, Freddie, and the rest of Team Russo!”
Season 1 centers on Adriana, who is still coping with the loss of her mother two years after her death. This loss has deeply affected the Russo family, creating tension and financial difficulties. Each of Adriana’s sisters is pursuing a skating career – Elsie hopes to compete in the Olympics as a figure skater, and Mimi is a rising star in ice dancing – while Adriana has put her own dancing dreams aside to help keep the family business running.
When Elise is seriously injured, Adriana reluctantly returns to competitive skating to earn money and sponsorships to keep her family’s ice rink afloat. After her longtime partner and boyfriend, Freddie, withdraws, she teams up with Brayden Elliot, a skater known for his rebellious attitude.
Freddie came back to the rink with a new skating partner, Riley—who happened to be Adriana’s best friend—and this sparked a love triangle between Adriana, Brayden, and Freddie.
Picking up after the season 1 finale of Finding Her Edge, season 2 intensifies the competition and drama between the couples, both during training and in their personal lives. The show’s creator, Iacopelli, drew inspiration from Jane Austen’s Persuasion, which tells the story of Anne Elliot caught in a love triangle between her former love, Captain Wentworth, and the wealthy, eligible Mr. Elliot, a cousin.
The fast renewal of the series indicates that Finding Her Edge quickly gained popularity with viewers, especially those in Netflix’s young adult demographic. While Netflix hasn’t shared exact viewing numbers, renewing the show after only two weeks suggests a lot of people watched and stayed interested in the initial episodes.
Netflix hasn’t said when season 2 will be made or released, but renewing the show early allows the writers and creators to plan the next part of the story without delay. This confirms that Finding Her Edge was a hit for Netflix, and a second season is something many viewers are looking forward to.
Finding Her Edge season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
