Grindr, the most popular dating app for LGBTQ+ people, is experimenting with a new, expensive subscription option that could cost users up to $500 per month.
Dating apps are very profitable because they charge users small amounts for extra features. These include things like subscriptions, the ability to highlight your profile, and temporary boosts – essentially, users can pay for advantages.
Following Tinder’s lead with a premium subscription, Grindr is now releasing ‘Edge,’ a similar offering with added features.
Business Insider reports that a new, paid version of this AI is now available in the US, after being tested in Australia and New Zealand. Currently, the different subscription options are all quite costly.
Grindr’s new AI subscription costs $500 every month
So, Grindr’s trying something new – they’re testing out different subscription prices for different people. I’ve heard a weekly subscription is starting around eighty bucks, but apparently, some tiers could get really expensive, like hundreds of dollars a week! It’s a weird experiment, and I’m curious to see how it plays out.
Screenshots reveal subscription prices of $349.99 and $499.99, meaning a yearly subscription could cost almost $6,000.
$350 a month for… GRINDR?

Edge combines three helpful AI features: Discover helps you find better matches, Insights shows you how compatible you are with someone before you chat, and A-List brings back old conversations. Plus, you get all the benefits of Grindr Unlimited, like no ads.
Grindr justified its subscription costs, stating that this initial test is part of a plan to improve the app’s performance and help users find more genuine connections.
As AI chatbots become increasingly popular for finding connections, Grindr is attempting to leverage AI to foster real relationships. However, accessing these features may be expensive for some users.
We need to see if the Edge tier delivers enough value to match its cost, or if users will be disappointed.
