The end of an era for streaming has come to pass.
Next month, Netflix will no longer be available on a certain video game system, leaving users unable to stream content on that device. While Netflix works on many devices like TVs, phones, and tablets, it will soon be removing support for this particular type of gaming console, meaning users won’t be able to watch new shows and movies there anymore.
Many users are reporting that Netflix will stop working on PlayStation 3 consoles starting March 2, 2026. A message is now appearing on the PS3 when people try to open the Netflix app, confirming that the console will no longer be supported after that date.
Netflix will stop working on this device after March 2, 2026. You can find a list of devices that still support Netflix at netflix.com/compatibledevices.
Sony released the PlayStation 3 in 2006, and this year, on November 17th, it marked its 20th anniversary in the US. Now two generations behind the current PlayStation 5 (released in November 2020), it’s understandable that Netflix is ending its support for the older console.
The PlayStation 3 offers a special way to enjoy its games and movies. Unlike newer consoles, it can connect directly to older CRT TVs, giving everything a classic 4:3 look and feel. While the PS4 and PS5 need extra adapters to work with these older TVs, the PS3 connects easily with a standard connection.
Good news for gamers with older consoles: you’ll still be able to watch new Netflix shows in February 2026, including season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer and season 3 of The Night Agent. However, after February, you’ll only have two days left to stream Netflix on those consoles before access is permanently removed.
Netflix has been removed from several gaming consoles before. It disappeared from the Nintendo Wii in 2019, the Wii U in 2021, and the Xbox 360 in 2024. Until recently, the PlayStation 3 was the only gaming console from that generation still offering Netflix, but that changed in March.
Although Netflix will no longer be available on the PS3, you can still enjoy it on newer consoles like the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. There are currently no plans to stop supporting those systems. As the PS3 reaches its end of life, Netflix is focusing on the future.
