Over two decades after it first appeared on television, the show is once again popular on streaming services. With a new version of its ninth and final season now available, viewers are revisiting the show and experiencing all the laughs, awkward moments, and tears of its emotional conclusion.
Thanks to the release of Season 9’s “Superfan episodes,” The Office is currently the most-streamed show on Peacock in the US. According to data from FlixPatrol, it’s now at the top, surpassing The Traitors, which had held the No. 1 spot on the platform all year. These episodes aren’t available for streaming outside of the United States at this time.
After moving The Office to its Peacock streaming service, NBC has been releasing extended episodes called “Superfan” for each season. These versions include extra footage like deleted scenes and storylines that didn’t make it into the original broadcast. The final “Superfan” episodes from Season 9 were released on January 26th, finishing Peacock’s special re-release of the series.
The continued popularity of The Office episodes like “Superfan” proves how dedicated its fanbase remains, even years after the show ended. Originally premiering in 2005 as an adaptation of a British series, the U.S. version of The Office quickly surpassed the original, running for nine seasons and concluding in 2013. Over a decade later, it’s still incredibly popular on streaming services and remains a major draw for Peacock.
With the conclusion of the ‘Superfan’ project in Season 9, Peacock will lose a significant offering. Although The Office and its extended content will remain exclusively on Peacock in the US, this loss could prompt conversations about bringing the show back in some form, though there are currently no plans for a revival.
Will There Ever Be a Revival of The Office?
Fans of The Office have long wished for the show to return, whether through a reunion special or a full revival. Several cast members have expressed interest in bringing the show back in some way, with some suggesting a format similar to the original U.K. version, which had several special episodes after it ended. However, other stars, like Steve Carell who played Michael Scott, are hesitant, worried that a return wouldn’t live up to the original’s success.
Although a revival of The Office hasn’t been officially announced, fans have The Paper to enjoy. This new show exists in the same world as The Office and even brings back some familiar faces, most notably Oscar Martinez, played by Oscar Nuñez. The Paper was very popular on Peacock, and it’s been renewed for a second season, which may include even more cast members from the original series instead of a complete reunion.
Several actors from The Office have continued to build on the show’s story in interesting ways. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, known for playing Pam and Angela, host a podcast where they discuss each episode and interview people who worked on the show. Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin, created An Oral History of The Office, which features interviews with cast and crew members about their experiences.
Currently, there aren’t any confirmed plans to bring back The Office. But fans still have plenty to enjoy, like longer cuts of episodes, podcasts discussing the show, and related spin-off series.
The Office is available to stream on Peacock, along with its Superfan Episodes.
