Ghost-type Pokémon have an interesting backstory. In the original Pokémon Red and Blue games, there were only three: Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. These Pokémon were both Ghost and Poison-type, making them vulnerable to Psychic attacks. However, a glitch in the game meant that Psychic-types were incorrectly immune to Ghost-type moves – they should have been weak to them.

The Ghost-type Pokémon have improved significantly over time. They now effectively counter Psychic-types, and many more Ghost Pokémon have been added in newer generations. Their resistance to Normal and Fighting moves remains special, and lately, some of the most powerful Pokémon used in competitive battles have been Ghost-types.

Plus, the way it moves and the fact that it doesn’t really have a face just adds to its spooky, creepy vibe – it totally fits the Ghost-type!
