Okay, folks, buckle up! The latest episode of Private Practice delivered some seriously shocking news about Addison Montgomery and Jake Reilly. I have to warn you, if you’re a fan of this couple, you might want to grab a tissue. It was Addison herself who revealed the bombshell – and trust me, it’s a game changer.
Addison confided in Amelia Shepherd, her ex-sister-in-law, that Jake was ending their relationship. She explained that the problem started because Jake no longer believed in her work with the PRT and wanted her to return home.
Later in the show, after thinking things through and talking with others, Addison spoke with Amelia again and shared more details about what was happening with Jake.
She explained that Jake used to be a strong supporter of her work. He’d call her every morning when she was traveling, offering encouragement and acknowledging the difficulty of what she did. He’d also send her care packages and help her think through tough cases, always having her back. Now, though, he rarely calls, and when he does, he just talks about his own problems – things like traffic or his son’s school – or finds fault with her.
She explained that her husband feels disconnected from her when she is home, and she admits he’s right – she hasn’t been a good partner lately. She’s made forgetful mistakes, like missing their anniversary and his birthday, and feels she’s changed from the woman he first loved. She also feels things in general have changed drastically, even in her field of science. Ultimately, she can’t bear to stand by and watch people suffer, so she’s prioritizing her work, even if it means her personal life falls apart.
Addison and Jake haven’t completely broken up, but it seems like Addison will need to decide about their relationship soon.
Grey’s Anatomy Reveals Addison and Jake’s Relationship Has Hit Some Problems
The newest episode of Grey’s Anatomy marks Kate Walsh’s first return to the show since 2023. Walsh originally played Addison, an OB/GYN and neonatal surgeon, when the series began, and was a main character for the first three seasons.
Kate Walsh first appeared as a guest star for eight seasons. During that time, her character’s storyline led to the marriage of Addison and Jake. More recently, she returned to play Addison in seasons 18 and 19 of Grey’s Anatomy as a recurring guest star.
Sara Ramirez’s occasional returns to Grey’s Anatomy haven’t been without debate. Those who disliked her recent storylines likely won’t be happy with the latest developments involving her character, Addison, and Jake.
New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy air on ABC every Thursday. You can stream all 21 seasons of the show on Netflix and Hulu right now.
