As a huge Dragon Ball fan, I’m so excited about the 40th anniversary! It’s not just about revisiting Dragon Ball Super, but they’re also releasing a ton of new game content. And get this – they’re even making a new game specifically geared towards those of us who grew up with Dragon Ball!
The recent Genkidamatsuri event featured several exciting Dragon Ball updates. Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero will receive major downloadable content, including a brand-new single-player story with 100 missions and a survival mode packed with extra characters, outfits, stages, and more. These additions are planned for release by this summer, and Nintendo Switch players will also get access to content previously available on other systems.
The biggest game in Dragon Ball history
The most exciting reveal is likely Age 1000, a new Dragon Ball game aiming to be the most expansive and detailed title in the series yet. The game will feature a wealth of content, including entirely new characters designed by the late Akira Toriyama, who worked on it for over six years.
Some fans think this new game might be similar to the old online game Dragon Ball Online, or even a continuation of it. They point out the new game’s title matches the time period of the original Dragon Ball Online – a game that wasn’t released in the West, so many fans have forgotten about it. Players familiar with the Xenoverse games might also notice similarities, leading some to wonder if this could be the third Xenoverse title.
Right now, we’re just making guesses – and that will probably ramp up as fans eagerly analyze the preview. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long for official news. We’ll find out more at the Dragon Ball Battle Hour event in mid-April. But even then, the real wait begins, as Age 1000 isn’t scheduled to release until 2027.
