Chris Pratt recently discussed his plans for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He promised to fulfill a commitment he made as Star-Lord and shared details about what his character, Star-Lord, has been up to while on Earth.
In Chris Pratt’s latest film, he stars as a detective accused of killing his wife. He has just 90 minutes to convince an artificial intelligence judge that he’s innocent.
The new movie, Mercy, comes out this week, on January 23, 2026. TopMob’s Jacqui Faiman recently interviewed the lead actor for a YouTube video, discussing both his role and the film itself.
While I was chatting with the actor, I also managed to ask about his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. We also talked about what Marvel character he really wants to play someday – it’s a dream role for him!
Chris Pratt promises to make good on Star-Lord promise
The latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie ended on a heartfelt note as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, went back to Earth and was happily reunited with his grandfather, Jason.
The movie concludes with a heartwarming scene of Peter sharing breakfast with his grandfather, followed by a message promising, “The legendary Star-Lord will return.”
Since the release of Volume 3, there haven’t been any indications of a follow-up. However, when asked about revisiting his famous characters, Chris Pratt expressed a strong desire to fulfill a commitment made with Guardians of the Galaxy: bringing Star-Lord back for another adventure.
According to Pratt, Quill has likely been trying to distance himself from any blame for Iron Man’s death, all while claiming to have been a hero in the past.
He also thinks rock and roll will be important to the story, explaining that the character will need to familiarize himself with music from the 1970s up to the present day.
Pratt wants to play a very specific version of the Punisher

We then asked Pratt which fictional character he’d most like to play, and he instantly answered, “The Punisher.”
Growing up, The Punisher was always my absolute favorite comic book character, so I’ve always been a huge fan. Playing James Reece in The Terminal List lets me kinda live out that fantasy, you know? It’s like getting to be a version of The Punisher, and honestly, that character is just so good.
Jon Bernthal is currently known for his role as the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s set to reprise that role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Chris Pratt has expressed interest in a different Punisher storyline, suggesting Punisher 2099 as a project he’d like to be involved with.
If you’re not familiar with him, the Punisher 2099 first appeared in comics in 1993, created by writers Pat Mills and Tony Skinner, with artwork by Tom Morgan.

I’m really excited about this new story! It takes place in a different version of the Marvel Universe, and it’s all about a character named Jacob Gallows. He begins the story as a cop – a member of something called the Public Eye Police Force.
He takes on the role of the Punisher after his family is murdered and he discovers the previous Punisher’s journal, which inspires him to continue the fight.
The story unfolds in a dark, futuristic world shaped by capitalist excess and the gritty aesthetic of cyberpunk. It’s a violent place, but also offers sharp criticism of issues like constant surveillance, a justice system run by private companies, widespread corruption, and a society rigged to favor those in power.
The new film Mercy, which explores similar ideas about the future of society and technology, will be released this Friday, January 23, 2026. And be sure to check out our new ScreenTime YouTube channel for more interviews with people in the TV and movie industries – just bookmark or subscribe!
