PlayStation Plus members will get three new games starting this Tuesday, January 6th. While the first free games of 2026 are available, this month’s selection is a bit more low-key, featuring a variety of titles that weren’t major hits.
PlayStation Plus members can download three free games this month: the fast-paced arcade racer Need For Speed: Unbound, the classic 3D platformer Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and the cooperative mining adventure Core Keeper.
It’s really different from what’s available now – you’ve got until Monday, January 5th, to grab the December 2025 games. Last month, as a PlayStation Plus member, I was able to download Lego Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, The Outlast Trials, Synduality: Echo of Ada, and Neon White, all for free!
Fast and Awkward

The Need for Speed series isn’t doing as well as it used to. Currently, EA has paused development on new games in the series, largely because the latest installment, Need for Speed: Unbound, wasn’t very popular, according to Matthew Everingham of Speedhunters.
NFS Unbound, launched in 2022, received mixed reviews and didn’t perform as well as EA hoped for a game designed to be continually updated. While it’s a solid and enjoyable arcade racer with a distinctive visual style, it struggles to live up to the high standards set by previous games in the Need for Speed series.
Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse
When Epic Mickey was originally released in 2010, it wasn’t very successful, and many critics and players found it didn’t measure up to other platforming games of the time. However, the 2024 updated version, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, created by Purple Lamp, has been much better received.
Epic Mickey: Rebrushed improves almost everything about the original 2010 game. While the gameplay isn’t groundbreaking, it doesn’t need to be – you’ll get over a dozen hours of enjoyable platforming that captures the magic of classic Disney, much like the older Kingdom Hearts games.
Back to the Mines
Minecraft has shown us people are surprisingly drawn to the idea of digging underground with friends – and sometimes meeting an explosive end. It seems to be a natural human instinct!

Core Keeper, released in 2024, is a fun, collaborative game for up to eight players where you can build, explore, battle, and sometimes even meet your demise while uncovering the secrets of the Core. It’s a unique blend of games like Stardew Valley, Minecraft, and Terraria, and it’s considered the standout title among January’s free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
