Get ready for a lot of James Bond! All twenty-six Bond films – including the official Eon Productions movies and Never Say Never Again – are arriving on Netflix this month. This deal, finalized last year, also brings other MGM favorites like Legally Blonde, Rocky, and The Man in the High Castle to the streaming service. According to sources, this move is intended to expand the Bond franchise’s global audience and build excitement before a new spy thriller hits the big screen.
Streaming services are starting to share content more often, moving away from each platform keeping everything to itself. Instead of studios locking their shows and movies onto single services, they’re now licensing different projects to various streamers – similar to how television worked in the past. According to Chris Ottinger, head of distribution at Amazon MGM Studios, when Amazon bought MGM, they planned to keep licensing MGM’s popular library to different streaming and TV partners. This means iconic films and shows, including the James Bond collection arriving on Netflix January 15th, will be available on multiple platforms. As for the next James Bond movie, it’s still in the works and hopefully will be released sometime in the future.
