Stranger Things Ending: Creators Reveal Future of Franchise Beyond Season 5

After nearly ten years, the show will conclude with the final episode of its fifth season on December 31st. But don’t worry, the world of the show will live on with future stories.

The first new project in the Stranger Things universe is a prequel focusing on the backstory of Henry Creel. Another upcoming addition is an animated spinoff called Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, which will take place between the second and third seasons of the original show.

The Duffer Brothers had already decided on a direction for the show. “We’re moving ahead with it,” Matt Duffer said. He explained they kept the plan secret, but one of the show’s actors, Finn Wolfhard, figured it out. “Netflix was getting really frustrated because we wouldn’t tell them. Finn guessed what it was, so he was the only one who knew.”

This new story features different characters and takes place in a different town, but it still has some connections to the original series. However, we intentionally designed it to be the final chapter for the town of Hawkins, the Upside Down, and these characters, bringing their story to a definitive conclusion.

He explained that the ending was designed to be definitive, not leave room for future installments. He emphasized they didn’t want viewers to be left wondering about unresolved plot points or thinking a sequel was planned; they intentionally wanted to conclude the story completely.

One of the show’s creators mentioned they’ve considered ways to expand the world of Stranger Things, but they need to find the right name for this expanded universe – something other than just ‘Stranger Things’.

Matt Duffer said they’re planning to continue the story through animated shows and eventually live-action spin-offs, though he doesn’t like to label exactly what form it will take.

Stranger Things Season 5’s Final Runtime Is Here

The second volume of the series just dropped on Netflix, following the first four episodes released last month. These new episodes are all over an hour long, making the wait worthwhile. “Chapter 5: Shock Jock” is an hour and eight minutes long, “Chapter Six: Escape from Camazotz” runs for an hour and fifteen minutes, and “Chapter 7: The Bridge” clocks in at an hour and six minutes.
