2026 Is Officially the Year Yellowstone Fans Have Waited For

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the Yellowstone story since 2024, and 2026 promises to deliver. Though the original series ended last year with a somewhat unsatisfying finale, several new spinoffs are planned that could give the story a more satisfying conclusion and make the wait worthwhile.

The new shows will show us what happens with the characters from Yellowstone after the main series finishes. Y: Marshals, focusing on Kayce Dutton, is expected to be the first to air, but several other spinoffs are also coming soon. This could make 2026 a huge year for the Yellowstone universe, especially as Taylor Sheridan prepares to leave Paramount, which will change things for the franchise.

Yellowstone’s Modern Story Returns on March 1

The story of Yellowstone will continue in March, and possibly even sooner, with a new series focused on Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). Titled Y: Marshals, it will premiere on the 1st of the month and follow Kayce as he begins a career as a US Marshal. This series, a procedural drama for CBS, expands on the story of John Dutton’s youngest son and his new life.

Though a sequel is planned for this year, the new show won’t continue the story of the current Dutton family. Fans are still waiting to find out what happens to Kayce and Beth Dutton after the final episode of Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 aired last November. That season provided a satisfying, though temporary, conclusion to each family member’s storyline.

The new show featuring Kayce Dutton will revisit the events following his storyline in Season 5 of Yellowstone, where he and his family – Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill) – established a life at East Camp. While Kelsey Asbille hasn’t been confirmed to return as Monica, many fans believe this suggests trouble in Kayce and Monica’s relationship.

The new show will likely have a different style and atmosphere. Taylor Sheridan, the creator and executive producer of Yellowstone, has also been the lead showrunner on his other projects, which means this new series featuring Kayce will be exploring fresh ground. However, David Hudnut, the showrunner for this spinoff, has a background in military-themed procedural dramas, as he previously led SEAL Team.

Several Yellowstone Spinoffs Are Due for Series Premieres in 2026

Since the main Yellowstone series ended, the Dutton family’s story hasn’t finished. We’ll finally learn what happens next with Kayce, and while it might take a while, we’ll eventually find out what became of Beth. In fact, 2026 could be a big year for the Yellowstone universe, potentially continuing Beth’s story then.

A new series based on the world of Yellowstone, following Beth and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), is in the works, currently called The Dutton Ranch. It was originally planned to launch at the end of 2025, but is now expected to premiere in 2026. Although not officially confirmed, it looks likely that the show will happen next year.

Next year, we might see another show connected to Yellowstone. Called The Madison, it’s a new drama about a family from New York who moves to Montana’s Madison River Valley after experiencing a difficult loss. The show is currently finished and ready to air, but a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Pfeiffer will play Stacy Clyburn, the mother figure of a family in the new series The Madison. She’s expected to appear as a character in Season 2. Russell joined the cast after filming for Season 1 wrapped up, and there are rumors that Season 2 is already being filmed. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the premiere of The Madison is likely to happen soon.

How Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Exit Affects Yellowstone’s Future

It’s promising to see the Yellowstone franchise gaining traction, especially with the recent news that its executive producer has a deal with NBCUniversal. While currently contracted with Paramount+ through 2028, he’s expected to move on and begin new projects after that.

As a big fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work, it’s a little bittersweet to hear he’s moving on. While he’ll be able to pursue other projects, everything he’s built for Paramount – all those shows like Yellowstone – will stay with them. So, Paramount+ will still have all of his creations. It sounds like the shows might continue even after he steps back, but we can expect his direct involvement to lessen over time.

Taylor Sheridan’s shows sometimes lose steam, but there’s hope that up to three Yellowstone spin-offs could premiere by 2026. Shows that don’t rely on Sheridan as the lead creative force have a good chance of continuing even if he leaves Paramount, but those he’s central to, such as The Madison, need plenty of time to develop and ensure their success.
