Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are well-known for their Apple TV+ series, *The Morning Show*, but many fans remember they both appeared on *Friends* about 25 years ago. Witherspoon played Jill, Rachel Green’s younger sister, and has often talked about how strange it was to be on that famous set and perform in front of a live audience. Recently, the 49-year-old shared a new story about her time on the show-something even Aniston hadn’t heard before.
Friends is undoubtedly one of the most popular and well-made sitcoms of all time. Filmed in front of a live audience, the show benefited from the incredible connection and talent of its six main actors, and it quickly became a hit, attracting many well-known guest stars.
And the Big Little Lies actress’ guest appearance came up while the two A-listers interviewed each other for ET (per its Instagram). After sharing that Aniston was sweet then, she couldn’t do more than two episodes because she was terrified of the theater element. With that, Witherspoon asked the Rachel Green actress if she’d ever done it again:
Do you know how many times I’ve been in front of a live audience since?
Once the question was asked, Reese Witherspoon and her *The Morning Show* co-star exchanged glances, curious to see each other’s reaction. Witherspoon, 56, admitted she hadn’t known the number and seemed surprised when the answer was revealed, as her co-star showed it using their hands.
No. [Witherspoon makes a zero with her hands] Zero?
This really highlights how deeply rooted her fear was, and still is. As she shared, Reese Witherspoon still thinks of her appearance on *Friends* as one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of her career. It all explains a lot, and she’s now sharing what she was initially thinking – including regretting taking the job.
It was a really frightening experience, and I definitely wouldn’t repeat it. Now everyone’s asking me to do it again, which I regret because I’m still too scared to say yes.
It’s surprising to learn what really frightens Reese Witherspoon. She usually seems so positive and cheerful, and I can’t think of many times she’s shown a different side. But everyone has fears, even celebrities. Honestly, hearing about this makes me wish there were more episodes featuring her character, Jill Green – a few extra would have been great!
I’m trying not to think about what might have happened if Reese Witherspoon had stayed on *Friends*. *Legally Blonde* was about to launch her career anyway, and it’s great to see the actresses who played the Green sisters working together again. Speaking of which, Season 4 of *The Morning Show* premieres today, September 17th, and will be available on the 2025 TV schedule.
You can watch all episodes of *Friends*, featuring Jennifer Aniston and her on-screen sister Witherspoon, with a subscription to HBO Max.
