Viral drunk raccoon confirmed as repeat offender after liquor store break-in

Virginia officials have shared that the raccoon famous for seemingly getting drunk in a liquor store isn’t a first-time troublemaker – they’ve caught him doing similar things before.

Early in December, a funny story spread online about a raccoon that broke into a liquor store and apparently got drunk. Police in Hanover County, Virginia, shared pictures of the raccoon passed out near a toilet, a sight many people found humorously relatable.

Everyone at the police department and Hanover County Animal Shelter had a good laugh about the raccoon’s little adventure. They confirmed he’d recovered from whatever caused his unusual behavior and had come back to the shelter. He seemed okay, just maybe a bit of a headache!

The animal shelter returned the raccoon to the wild, jokingly hoping he’d learned that breaking into homes isn’t a good solution to his problems. Unfortunately, it seems this wasn’t his first offense.

Drunk raccoon has done this before

Animal Protection Officer Martin, the first to arrive on the scene with the intoxicated raccoon, said this wasn’t the first time he’d dealt with a raccoon in this condition.

She said on the Hear in Hanover podcast that they weren’t sure when he entered the building, but it seems he fell through the ceiling. This wasn’t his first time inside – apparently, this was his third break-in at the building.

There’s a raccoon who keeps finding his way into the karate studio. Apparently, he even snuck into the DMV once and helped himself to their snacks! We always let him come back because moving him would likely be fatal for a raccoon, but he always manages to find his way back here. He’s a surprisingly clever little animal.

Officer Martin described the scene as amusing, finding a raccoon lying face down near the toilet and the store floor covered in spilled liquids.

We initially thought he was just resting and would get up soon. But when we checked on him in the bathroom, it was clear he’d had too much to drink and was passed out.

We all started laughing, and both I and the store manager were snapping photos. By then, the store had officially opened for the day, and customers began to come in.
