The highly anticipated Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was a major topic at The Game Awards, and fans were wondering if it would release before 2030. Game director Casey Hudson has now clarified reports – possibly sparked by a prediction from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier – confirming that the game, a follow-up to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, will definitely be out before the end of the 2020s.
Hudson addressed rumors that the game wouldn’t be released until 2030, assuring fans it will come out much sooner. He jokingly added that he’s not getting any younger, implying a desire to see the game released soon.
Okay, so I’m super excited about Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, but we don’t have a release date yet – it’s really early in development! That trailer at The Game Awards was just a cinematic teaser, kind of like what Quantic Dream did with Star Wars Eclipse a couple of years ago. The team making it is Arcanaut Studios, a brand new studio that was just formed this past July. It’s going to be a huge undertaking for them to build a studio and create a full-blown, AAA Star Wars game, so it’ll probably be a while before we see it, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
In a recent post on the official Star Wars website, studio head Hudson shared what fans can anticipate from their upcoming games. He explained that they’re aiming to create emotionally engaging, cinematic experiences where player choices matter, with rich stories and detailed worlds. He also expressed the team’s excitement about returning to the Star Wars universe, calling the project a dream come true after productive discussions with Lucasfilm Games.
Fate of the Old Republic is a story-focused, single-player action role-playing game where you play as a Force-user during a period of rebuilding in the Star Wars galaxy.
