Casey Hudson, the director of the upcoming Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, has assured fans the game will be released before the year 2030, even with recent speculation suggesting otherwise.
The biggest surprise at The Game Awards 2025 was likely the announcement of Fate of the Old Republic. This new game is a spiritual successor to the beloved Knights of the Old Republic, promising a similar story where your choices matter, and is being led by the original game’s director.
The game is currently in the early stages of development. After its announcement, Jason Schrier from Bloomberg thought a 2030 release date was unlikely, even suggesting it might not appear until the PlayStation 7. However, Casey Hudson has reassured fans that the wait won’t be that long.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will arrive before 2030
He addressed rumors that the game wouldn’t be released until 2030, stating it will come out sooner. He jokingly added that he’s not getting any younger, implying a desire to release the game while he’s still able to contribute.
I keep hearing people say the game won’t be out until 2030, but don’t believe the hype! It’s coming out way before that. I’m not getting any younger, and I want to play it soon!

While an exact release date wasn’t revealed, Star Wars fans will be thrilled to hear that a new game is on the way. Considering the remake of Knights of the Old Republic has faced difficulties, this news offers reassurance that the series will be back in the future.
However, since Arcanaut Studios was just established this year, we probably shouldn’t expect this game to come out very soon. Although Hudson has stated it won’t be for the PlayStation 7, it’s more probable that it will be released on the PlayStation 6, and not the current consoles.
However, it’s important to remember this is just guesswork until the official announcement is made.
Details about the project are scarce right now, but Casey Hudson described it in a blog post as being on the same scale as Knights of the Old Republic, and stated his goal is to deliver the ultimate Star Wars game.
