Peter Gabriel is excited that one of his less famous songs, “I Have the Touch,” will be featured in the upcoming ping-pong movie Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet and a cast member from Shark Tank. Gabriel shared on his website that he’s grateful to the director, Josh Safdie, for choosing the song – originally released on his 1982 album and featuring Tony Levin on bass – as it doesn’t often get much attention. He joked that the song is rarely played, but he’s always been a fan of table tennis. Gabriel notes the film is generating a lot of buzz and he’s eager to see it in theaters during the holidays. He also mentions that a ping-pong table is always available backstage during his tours for the band and crew to enjoy.
Gabriel revealed that the upcoming film, Marty Supreme, will also feature two more 80s synth-pop hits: “Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime” by the Korgis and Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” Combined with “I Have the Touch,” these three songs share an interesting geographical link – they were all written and recorded near the city of Bath. Gabriel encouraged listeners to investigate this connection. He jokingly wondered when a director would finally use Rush’s “Carpet Crawlers” in a film.
