A new psychological thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried arrives in theaters on December 19th. The film features Italian singer Marco Morrone as Enzo, a quiet and imposing maintenance worker who often lingers in the background. Interestingly, Morrone and director John Feig recently shared with MovieWeb that much of Enzo’s brooding presence wasn’t acting at all – it was simply Morrone being himself.
Let me tell you about filming. We shot the whole movie outdoors, and it was incredibly cold. We were in New Jersey at the time, and as an Italian who’s used to warm weather, the freezing temperatures really got me into character. Standing there in the snow with a wooden stake… I wasn’t pretending to be cold, I genuinely was!
Paul Feig: He was watching all of us being warm through the windows.
Michele Morrone: I was freezing my ass off, for real. I was like, ‘Paul, please, get the take.’”
Paul Feig: He wasn’t brooding; his lips were frozen so he couldn’t move.
‘The Housemaid’ Does Not Seem Like Paul Feig’s Usual Work
Paul Feig, known for comedies like Bridesmaids, Spy, and the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, ventures into a new genre with the psychological thriller The Housemaid. Here’s a look at what the movie is about:
“The Housemaid” is a thrilling and captivating movie starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, adapted from a popular novel. Directed by Paul Feig, the film draws you into a deceptive world where things aren’t what they appear. Millie (Sweeney) takes a live-in housekeeping job with the rich and seemingly perfect Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar), hoping for a fresh start. However, the job quickly becomes much more than she bargained for – a dangerous and alluring web of secrets, scandal, and power plays unfolds behind closed doors, filled with shocking twists that will keep you guessing until the very end.
This film is a key project for both director Feig and star Sydney Sweeney, whose recent movies haven’t performed well at the box office after a successful start to 2024 with films like Anyone but You. The Housemaid might be debuting at a difficult time, opening on the same day as James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash. It’s hoping to attract viewers who are ready for something different – a darker, more suspenseful thriller with a touch of sensuality – after Cameron’s visually impressive fantasy film.
