Hideo Kojima reveals his role in Zootopia 2 after director asked for him personally

Hideo Kojima, the renowned game creator, will be involved with the upcoming Zootopia 2. This is his first time working on an animated movie, and he’ll be providing a voice performance for the Japanese dub.

Hideo Kojima revealed in an interview with Famitsu that the director of Zootopia 2, Jared Bush, personally asked him to join the project. The official Japanese website for Zootopia 2 confirms Kojima’s involvement, stating he voices the character Paul Moldebrandt, who is known as “Mole” in the Japanese version.

Hideo Kojima has appeared briefly in games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and in several of his own company’s titles, but this marks the first time he’s been involved in an animated project.

Kojima lands role in Zootopia 2

As a huge fan, I was absolutely thrilled to hear about this! Apparently, I’ve done a lot of on-screen and video game cameos before, but this is my first time doing voice work for a fully animated movie. And not just any animated movie – it’s a Disney film! Even better, it’s a sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies. The director, Jared Bush, reached out to me directly, which was such an honor, so I said yes immediately. I couldn’t have been happier!

Even though his role in the film is small, Kojima shared that working on it gave him a new respect for voice acting. He noted that Disney’s visual designs were helpful during his performance, and he was immediately impressed by the high quality of work happening behind the scenes.

Even though I was only in a small part, I was really impressed by the attention to detail during the recording process. The storyboards were a big help and made everything run smoothly. I’m normally a director, so it was a great learning experience to be the actor this time. It really highlighted how much thought voice actors put into even the smallest details, like handling the script and creating realistic sounds.

Zootopia 2 came out in the U.S. on November 26th and earned an impressive $556 million around the world during its opening weekend. This makes it the fourth-highest-grossing opening weekend ever.
