After 12 films, the Fast & Furious saga will conclude in 2027. The upcoming movie, currently known as either Fast 11 or Fast X: Part 2, will wrap up the main storyline. This is good news, as it means Fast & Furious has managed to avoid a pitfall that has recently plagued the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As a long-time fan, I have to admit the Fast & Furious series peaked a while back, but seeing it wrap up on the big screen after 26 years is going to be huge. Vin Diesel recently shared an update about Fast 11, and it sounds like we’re still on track for a release in a couple of years. I’m really hoping they can stick the landing and give the franchise the awesome ending it deserves.
Now that the main story of the Fast & Furious series is wrapping up, it’s clear they’ve successfully avoided a pitfall that Marvel fell into a few years ago. After the huge success of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel released a large number of TV series, which ultimately diminished the impact of their movies.
Three Fast & Furious Shows Were Considered At Some Point
Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fast & Furious franchise hasn’t yet spawned a live-action TV series, even though Universal Pictures has explored three different concepts for a small-screen version. According to Barry Hertz’s book, Welcome To The Family: The Explosive Story Behind Fast & Furious, a show centered around the character Han Lue even began the early stages of production.
At one point, there were ideas for spin-off shows focusing on younger versions of Dominic Toretto and a comedic series about Roman and Tej. However, considering how some shows related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been received, fans of the Fast & Furious films might be glad those ideas never moved forward.
Fast & Furious Having Multiple Shows Would Repeat An MCU Problem
Following the huge success of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, Marvel quickly released a lot of TV shows – eight between 2021 and 2022 alone. So far in the 2020s, the franchise has launched 18 series for television, and more are still planned.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m starting to feel like there’s just too much content coming out. It’s actually hurting the brand, and even I’m finding myself wondering if these new movies and shows are really worth the hype. Plus, everything is so interconnected now that it feels like homework just to keep up with the whole story! It’s a lot of work for a fun escape, you know?
There Is Already A Fast & Furious TV Show
Despite its success, the Fast & Furious franchise hasn’t fallen into the trap of creating too many TV spin-offs like some others – but it actually does have one surprisingly good show. Fast & Furious Spy Racers might just be what gets a new generation of fans hooked on the series.
The animated series following Dominic Toretto’s young cousin, Tony, is a fun watch on Netflix after six seasons released over two years. However, the creators of Fast & Furious should avoid making a lot of lower-quality TV spinoffs once the main movie series concludes, so this show can stand on its own.
