As a huge movie fan, I’m so excited to hear that one of my all-time favorites, starring Tom Hanks and directed by Robert Zemeckis, is coming to streaming! It’s the film that won Tom Hanks his second Oscar, and it’s fantastic news that it’ll be available on not one, but two different streaming services this December.
Starting December 1st, you’ll be able to watch Forrest Gump on Tubi, the free streaming service with ads. Then, on December 4th, the beloved 1994 film will also be available on Netflix. Starring Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump tells the story of a man who overcomes challenges to achieve incredible things, from meeting presidents to serving as a decorated hero in the Vietnam War. The movie was a huge success, earning over $678 million worldwide.
In 1995, Forrest Gump was a major Oscar winner, taking home the award for Best Picture and earning Robert Zemeckis the Best Director Oscar. The film also won awards for its writing, film editing, and visual effects. Gary Sinise received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Lieutenant Dan, Forrest Gump’s tough but loyal friend. Robin Wright, Sally Field, and Mykelti Williamson also starred in the movie.
Robert Zemeckis is the director behind popular films like Back to the Future. His latest movie is receiving very positive feedback from audiences, with a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 250,000 reviews. Critics give it a 75% rating, still earning it a “certified fresh” designation. Forrest Gump marked the beginning of a successful working relationship between Zemeckis and Tom Hanks, who later starred in Zemeckis’ Cast Away (2000), The Polar Express (2004), and Here (2024).
Woody Will Return in Toy Story 5
Good news for Tom Hanks fans! He’s returning to voice Woody in Toy Story 5, the next installment in the beloved Disney/Pixar series. The film is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026, and promises a new challenge for Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the whole gang as they face a tech-savvy threat to playtime.
Tim Allen, known for his role in the Toy Story films, recently announced he’s finished recording his lines for Toy Story 5. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Allen shared that he completed his work on Friday, expressing how much the project meant to him. He wrote that he was deeply moved by the experience and feels grateful to be part of the Toy Story franchise and to voice the character for so many years.
Forrest Gump lands on Tubi on Dec. 1 and on Netflix on Dec. 4.
